The need to remote monitoring of the object has always been considerably topical. Today, the market of video surveillance cameras (or closed-circuit cameras, or CCTV cameras) can offer devices for almost all needs that allow using CCTV cameras in any systems, including the systems for repeating and visualizing the information that comes from various sensors in monitoring systems. In this article, we will examine the example of connected CCTV cameras to a device for monitoring server rooms UniPing server solution v4/SMS and their configurations necessary for sending snapshots when sensors for visual evaluation of the environment triggered in a remote room. For example, after connecting a door sensor, we will be able to see a face of an individual, who opened the door. After connecting a smoke sensor, it is possible to evaluate actual smoke in the room. A leakage sensor shows a water level on the floor. There are also many other variants that are limited only by the administrator's imagination and the necessity in the monitoring.
To implement a described solution, you will need:
- a surveillance camera (CCTV camera). The main requirement towards the camera is the presence of Alarm IN inputs. A camera SNR-CI-DB30I is going to be used in the article;
- A monitoring device UniPing server solution v4/SMS (it is also possible to use any other device for monitoring or power controlling, equipped with IO lines, for example, UniPing server solution v3, UniPing v3, NetPing IO v2, NetPing 8/PWR-220 v4/SMS, NetPing 2/PWR-220 v4/SMS, NetPing 2/PWR-220 v3/ETH);
- Any sensor, the triggering of which is the basis for getting a snapshot from a camera. In the example, a door sensor is used.
Modern human aims to automate as many as possible spheres of his/her personal and professional life. Earlier in our blog, we had already examined a possibility of Using NetPing Devices to Solve the Issue of Registering Data from Water Flow Meters. In this article, we will examine one more automation variant – sending a monthly report about the water consumption data using the integration of a monitoring device produced by NetPing company with a Zabbix monitoring system.
In the report, there is a need to represent the next information:
- date of sending a report;
- information on the meter;
- final water/electricity consumption for the last month;
- readings at the beginning of the period;
- readings at the end of the period;
- a total sum of the payment in currency according to the tariff
Russian innovational company Eocortex that develops software for the IP video surveillance systems integrated devices NetPing IO v2 and UniPing v3 with its software product. This allowed expanding the usability of NetPing monitoring units on the basis of developed scenarios.
- start of video recording when a door sensor or a glass break sensor triggers;
- activation of a siren alarm when there is movement detected at the surveillance object;
- switching a lightening system on at the object to record video and when motion sensor triggers;
- opening/closing a barrier when license plates are recognized;
- notifying an operator on duty with a sound or signal indication and when finding abandoned items in public places;
- organization of access to a room by identification of an individual's face;
- informing about the crowding of people in public places using such methods as e-mail notifications, through SNMP notifications to a control panel, sound or signal indication;
- implementing features of camcorder washer when it gets dirty;
- following and guarding moving objects when they surpass the entrance to a specified zone with a lengthy stay at this zone;
- preventing and detecting fire situations in the moment of triggering a smoke sensor by switching off the equipment that works and activating video recording
A benefit of this integration is a significant enlargement of software features for the systems of IP video surveillance Eocortex on the basis of NetPing devices for remote monitoring that are inexpensive, stable and easily integrable with different information systems.

The sensor SWF5.1 is designed to control the presence of water and other water solutions that are non-aggressive to the elements of a sensor cable in a controlled zone. Design specifications of a sensor cable allow to install a sensor on different types of managed objects, such as tubes, flat surfaces (including metal ones). Because of a lack of contract potentials on sensitive elements, a sensor cable can be immersed in the fluid for a long time without damaging sensitive elements. When using a water leakage sensor SWF 5.1 with the devices from NetPing company, a customer receives a ready system, which can be used in all activities, where the presence of water and non-aggressive water solutions is crucial for proper functioning of the equipment and living, such as housing, air conditioning and ventilation systems, basements, Data Processing Centers (DPC), boilers, water supply and heating systems for houses and cottages (bathrooms, kitchens, heating batteries), glass facades of buildings, stock storages, etc. Thanks to having a sensor cable of a big length, a sensor can simultaneously control a fluid leakage on the vast area. A water leakage sensor SWF 5.1 together with devices of NetPing company allows to react to leakages adequately by informing via E-mail, SMS (in devices with a built-in GSM modem) and SNMP Trap.
SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) – is a standard Internet protocol for controlling devices in IP networks on the basis of TCP/UDP. architectures. Devices of remote control and monitoring NetPing sensors support the operation via SNMP protocol as well. One of convenient ways of monitoring is monitoring using a mobile phone.
In this article, an example of using "Monitor Master Free" software (free version) for remote controlling a NetPing device, namely controlling external devices (for example, a signal alarm or a light beacon) that are connected to IO lines in the "output" mode is described using UniPing server solution v4/SMS device, as well as controlling sockets of a NetPing 8/PWR-220 v4/SMS device as an example.
Modern technologies are found today in all spheres of life, allowing to automate and simplify different processes for a human. Not the latest role is given them in the sphere of access. The things that needed to be performed manually before can be trusted to the remote control systems today. Thanks to this, an execution time is shortened, and a work for a human is simplified in general.
NetPing devices, which are designed to monitor a microclimate status of server rooms and other objects, provide security functions and rapid alerting of corresponding personnel, additionally help to implement a system of remote controlling objects with a feedback. This solution based on NetPing devices contributes to significant reducing of financial expenses compared to professional systems, deployment time, and get simple management and high reliability of work.
In this article, we will examine an example of implementing a remote control for a barrier (on the basis of open/close buttons) with a LED light, which must react at a position of a barrier.
One of the most important issues of a physical security of a server equipment as well as a security of the entire IT-infrastructure is tracking and controlling access to server rooms. A tracking system must notify system administrators and technical specialists about any access to a server room or protected object 24 hours a day 7 days a week with a possibility to browse a history of events in any moment of time. Such way of informing allows system administrators to control an access to the object without using expensive access control systems, which contain different types of electronic locks, components of employee identification via electronic maps, coded key locks and other security elements.
In this article, an example of organising the system of tracking access to server room on the basis of NetPing device and a monitoring system PRTG Network Monitor will be examined. The essence of the system is in monitoring a door opening/closing sensor, which is connected to a NetPing device by means of the PRTG monitoring system, as well as building a graph of opening a door within different time intervals.
The NetPing company announces issuing a firmware update for a device of remote monitoring of server rooms NetPing IO v2. This firmware version contains a small implementation of new functionality, bug fixes, and updates of a layout of certain pages of a device web interface.
What have been changed in the latest version?
To control and monitor a corporate IT environment, it is possible to use the product from the Microsoft company named System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), which is included in the integrated management platform System Center. This product allows combining the information about the operability from different components of IT infrastructure, providing its generalized representation in one console. SCOM allows tracking services, devices and operations for many PCs in the network. Operators can rapidly estimate a state of IT environment and its IT services, run different systems and workloads using multiple representations, which show the information about a status, operability, and performance.
Previously, we examined an example of integrating NetPing devices with a cloud service dweet.io. A distinguishing feature of the service is a lack of the need to sign up or configure anything to work with it – data from your devices can be transmitted at once. You can watch changing data from sensors in the view of graphs via the address:
In the previous publications on an integration of NetPing devices, two examples with cloud services of Internet of things concept (IoT) were examined: xively.com and thethings.io. Now it is a turn for the integration of NetPing devices with a similar service dweet.io to be examined.
A distinctive feature of this service is the fact that there is no need to sign up or configure something to work with it – data from your devices can be transferred at once. The service is built on the principle of objects named "things", into which a data is transferred through HTTP requests. In case if there is no object with such name, it is created automatically. A name for a future object must be unique.
NetPing devices for monitoring server rooms have one more remarkable feature – it will allow to organize a notification system on dangerous situations or emergencies at objects. Such systems are sometimes used at businesses for mass notification of staff or persons in charge, who must in turn take actions to evacuate people or eliminate adverse effects.
In this article an example of implementing «alarm buttons», i.e. a notification system, using NetPing devices will be regarded.
Three «alarm buttons» will be used in a notification system at the objects: №1, №2, №3. When clicking any of these buttons a siren alarm will trigger, which is installed at the object №4. In addition, there is one more button «Cancel» at the object №4, when clicking it a siren alarm is switched off.
The service thethings.io offers a full range of solutions for the market of Internet of Things (hereinafter IoT) (Internet of things concept), as well as a simple and flexible API for the developers of IoT applications. This service is not related to any certain hardware platform and can be integrated with almost any device if it supports one of the next protocols: HTTP, Websockets, MQTT or CoAP. More detailed information on the issue can be learnt at this page of the project.
- Provides a platform (backend) for integration with other devices: a service is not connected to any certain hardware platform, instead it uses a standard HTTP API mechanism – this allows easy integrating of any device;
- Can serve a platform for developing own applications: in the section for developers there are ready libraries for writing applications, including mobile ones, on different programming languages for different hardware platforms;
- Offers a possibility for automation – triggers: a service allows interacting between different devices through the mechanism of HTTP POST requests
Today the issue of automatic registering water flow data for a certain period of time is often topical. Such registering is necessary not only for plants and industrial manufacturers but also for a network of individual households, summer cottages, garages, apartment buildings. Automatic collection of data from water counters guarantees momentary and precise receiving of readings on water consumption from each metering device. A system excludes errors in manual writing readings of meters and makes a staff of walkers, who control a regularity of giving information from counters, unnecessary.
To organize transferring and registering data on water flow from water meters, there is a need to have a corresponding infrastructure of transferring data and a remote system for analysis and registering readings. It is possible to use a NetPing device with input-output lines, which allows to plug in water consumption meters with a pulse output and Ethernet ports for connecting to a local network with the aim to transfer data into the analyzing and metering system as a main element of the data transfer infrastructure.
TRASSIR software, which is developed by the Russian company Digital Security Systems Lab (DSSL), is a leader in the area of developing professional software for digital video surveillance systems. A possibility to integrate monitoring devices of a server room and NetPing remote power supply monitoring devices is implemented in TRASSIR software. In this case NetPing devices serve as executing devices and allow to increase a functionality of the system TRASSIR, as well as expand the applicability of the devices NetPing in different automated systems and video surveillance complexes.
In this article, connecting NetPing devices to TRASSIR software will be examined.
In this article, we will describe creating a remote metering system of a consumed electricity built on the basis of a device NetPing IO v2, an electricity meter and a monitoring system PRTG Network Monitor. This system allows to take readings remotely from a pulse output, which may be subsequently sent to a PC.
