NetPing devices for monitoring server rooms have one more remarkable feature – it will allow to organize a notification system on dangerous situations or emergencies at objects. Such systems are sometimes used at businesses for mass notification of staff or persons in charge, who must in turn take actions to evacuate people or eliminate adverse effects.

In this article an example of implementing «alarm buttons», i.e. a notification system, using NetPing devices will be regarded.

Three «alarm buttons» will be used in a notification system at the objects: №1, №2, №3. When clicking any of these buttons a siren alarm will trigger, which is installed at the object №4. In addition, there is one more button «Cancel» at the object №4, when clicking it a siren alarm is switched off.

Requirements for Implementation of «Alarm Buttons»

To implement a described solution, the next equipment will be used:

Plugging Equipment In

  1. It is necessary to plug circuit breaker buttons without fixation to IO lines of a NetPing device. An order of connecting wires is irrelevant.

    Second wireGND

Let an «alarm button» at the object №1 be connected to a line IO1, an «alarm button» at the object №2 be connected to a line IO2, an «alarm button» at the object №3 be connected to a line IO3 and a button «Cancel» at the object №4 be connected to a line IO4.

  2. It is necessary to connect alarm siren to terminals of a NetPing device, which are indicated at the table below.

Configuring NetPing Device

Configuring a device for monitoring UniPing server solution v4/SMS for implementing «alarm buttons» will be regarded in this example. It is supposed that a basic configuration of a device (setting network parameters for connecting to a data transfer network) is already done. All necessary information on setting software and connecting sensors to a device can be seen in a corresponding documentation:

The first step of configuration is in connecting to a web interface of the device UniPing server solution v4/SMS. To connect, there is a need to enter an IP address of a device into a browser and sign in:

Configuring NetPing Device - web-interface

Default parameters of a NetPing device are as follows.

  • IP address: 192.168.0.100
  • Username: visor
  • Password: ping

Afterward go to the page «DISCRETE IO» of a device web interface, set the memo near necessary IO lines and switch the operation of IO lines(1-4) into the «input» mode. Save the settings by clicking the button «Apply changes».

A described setting is necessary to close contacts of buttons when clicking them. Closing contacts will be registered by input-output lines of a NetPing device. An open contact of a button corresponds to the status «logic 1», a closed contact of a button corresponds to the status «logic 0».

According to the fact that the entire automatization for implementing «alarm buttons» will be based on logic rules, there is a need to switch a relay management to the «Logic» mode (as mentioned above, a siren alarm for notifications is connected to a built-in relay). There is a need to go to the page «RELAY» to fulfill this setting, and choose a corresponding mode from a drop-down list «Relay Management». Save the settings by clicking the button «Apply changes».

The last and the most important step of configuration is setting the rules of the module «Logic», using which a system will react to clicking «alarm buttons» by switching on a siren alarm, and to clicking the button «Cancel» by switching off the alarm siren. Logic rules are set at the page «LOGIC».

The first three logic rules switch on a built-in relay, to which a siren alarm is connected when contacts of «alarm» are closed. A siren alarm starts screaming. The fourth logic rule switches off a built-in relay when contacts of the button «Cancel» are closed. A siren alarm goes silent

After configuring the rules of the «Logic» module, there is a need to save the settings by clicking the button «Apply changes» and switch on a module «Logic» by clicking the button «Start».

At this point, the simplest configuration of a notification system based on «alarm buttons» using NetPing devices is completed.
